CMS is the International Standard Musical Work Code (ISWC) for this musical composition. ISWCs are ISO 15707 identifiers managed by CISAC; they identify the underlying song — its melody, lyrics, and arrangement — rather than any single recording. One composition can have many recordings (ISRCs).
ISWC CMS identifies a musical composition. ISWCs are defined by ISO 15707 and managed by CISAC to uniquely identify the underlying song — the melody, lyrics, and arrangement.
How is an ISWC different from an ISRC?+
An ISWC identifies a musical work (the underlying composition — melody, lyrics, arrangement). An ISRC identifies a specific sound recording of that work. One ISWC can have many ISRCs — for example, the original recording, a remix, a live version, and a cover would each have their own ISRC but share the same ISWC.
What is ISWC CMS?
CMS is an International Standard Musical Work Code (ISWC) that uniquely identifies this musical composition. ISWCs are defined by ISO 15707 and managed by CISAC. Unlike ISRCs which identify recordings, an ISWC identifies the underlying song — the melody, lyrics, and arrangement.
