Copyright in a musical work is normally split between the people who wrote it and the publishers that administer their shares, so there is rarely a single owner. Credits.fm indexes registered credits rather than legal ownership: for “THE WAY IT'S GONNA BE” the registered writers are LEONARD TOM, LEWIS, MICHELLE ROBIN, NELSON, EVE. Publisher administration chains are recorded per writer — open a writer's IPI page to see the publishers registered against their share.

An ISWC identifies a musical work (the underlying composition — melody, lyrics, arrangement). An ISRC identifies a specific sound recording of that work. One ISWC can have many ISRCs — for example, the original recording, a remix, a live version, and a cover would each have their own ISRC but share the same ISWC.
